The Return of the King"Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let the sea roar and all it contains. Let the field exult and all that is in it. Then all of the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD for He is coming. For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness." From Psalm 96
At this time of year it seems as if the earth is coming back to life. Trees bud, flowers pop their heads through the earth (and sometimes through the snow), birds sing heartily as they claim their territory. Green is everywhere and in every shade. Color awakens the senses and the smell of lilacs is on the breeze. "Joy" is a good way to desribe the feeling it evokes. But for all this beauty and the promise of new life, the world is still full of disappointment, injustice and evil. The psalmist reminds us that there is coming a time when all the earth will rejoice, not because it is spring, but because the King is coming to put things in order. Who is this King? It's Jesus, the risen Messiah. His justice is perfect, as is His mercy. He will judge in righteousness and faithfully. Do you rejoice at the prospect of His return? Come and experience His goodness now and you will understand the reason we will rejoice then! |
